The Winter Solstice

In the chart for the Winter Solstice – said to foretell the energies of the upcoming three months – Pluto is conjunct Mercury and Pallas Athene and square Uranus. Under this influence there is guidance available about how to implement change in your life by deepening or expanding the way you think. Pluto/Mercury aspects are powerful and can indicate resorting to compulsive thought patterns as a habit. But the key to unlocking the gifts of this aspect is to “get to the bottom of things” looking for the areas to where your thinking may have become too narrow, fragmented or limited.

Mercury in Capricorn is like the Emperor card in the Tarot deck. It speaks of maturity, organization, planning and good time management. The Emperor knows how to consolidate power. The next three months provide excellent timing to formulate and put into practice a pragmatic, well organized, long term strategy.

In the Solstice chart Jupiter makes beneficent aspects to the Moon, Mercury and Venus indicating a time that bodes well for increased wisdom, love and artistry. It bodes well to take a more creative approach to your projects and initiatives. As we head into next week’s New Moon on Friday planetary influences suggest it is a good time to get busy with projects and plans. A lot can be accomplished with a clear focus. Do watch for the tendency to overwork which may lead to becoming exhausted or accident prone.

Take extra care when traveling or moving about and be attentive to the possibility of impulsiveness on the part of others. it is a good week to heighten awareness about how you direct your personal power as breakthroughs or revelations can emerge about this area of life.

Mars is opposite Uranus at the time of the New Moon. This influence suggests that there may be surprising or unanticipated events which may be hard to integrate at the time.

There is also increased energy for a fresh new start.

Providing extra time for rest and rejuvenation will be beneficial for clarity and integration as nerves can be frayed and tempers on a short fuse.

Mars in Cancer

Fiery, direct, dynamic Mars is now in the private, self protective sign of Cancer – symbolized by the Crab with its sideways, indirect motion. The energy of Mars can be frustrated in Cancer.
It can be an irritable time when family issues and issues of the past can easily be triggered resulting in angry, impulsive responses. Best if these situations arise to bring critical thinking to the fore and keep emotions at bay. Mars will move into Leo in early August.
The Sun in Cancer is moving up to a trine to Neptune making this a good time for spiritual contemplation and creativity. Envision the life you see yourself evolving towards.

Saturn in Scorpio

Saturn has moved back into the sign of Scorpio – it is now at the 29th degree. This degree – known as the “fated degree” – indicates a threshold time. It is a good time to review commitments related to personal regeneration, transformation and values in intimate relationship. It also bodes well to review areas related to investment and joint financial matters.
Saturn will station direct in early August and leave the sign of Scorpio in mid September.

With Mercury’s recent retrograde period and challenging aspect to Neptune it has been a good time to consider how inspiration informs your thinking and adjust the balance for the better if indicated. Jupiter, Uranus and Mars

The inspired energy of the Uranus/Jupiter trine is now in effect and being strengthened as Mars aspects it in a positive way. Do be aware of the excellent timing now for breakthroughs in thinking and perception which can open doors and present new opportunities. With Mercury retrograde in Gemini it bodes well to regard your life and the way you think about your life as a horizon- expanding journey. Revisit old thoughts to see if they need to be expanded or reignited with the fire of inspiration now present in the sky. Open the doors of perception with the powers of imagination and intuition. It is a good time to consider a multiplicity of ideas.

Mercury Retrograde, Mars and Neptune

One of the gifts of the Mercury retrograde period is that it offers the opportunity for a period of reflection and renewal culminating in a time of new beginnings when Mercury stations direct.

This particular retrograde period- through June 11 – is a good time to look at your use of personal power in relation to

your customary thought patterns and assumptions. Do your underlying thoughts and feelings support or weaken the way you move towards your goals? Are there contradictory or undermining ideas that need to be let go of?

Mars has been making a challenging aspect to Neptune during this time and this aspect is similar to the Hanged Man in the Tarot deck. When the Hanged Man appears in a reading it indicates that there will be a delay – and the purpose of this delay is some sort of change in perception. Surrender is associated with this card and the Hanged Man is unable to move but there is a golden halo or light around his head – indicating that the information he needs can be accessed through higher consciousness or by surrendering to a higher power.

There is is a dreamy ethereal quality to the aspects now indicating that the information may come through dreams, intuitions or musing so be sure to leave some time to be in that kind of space. Robert Bly described it well one time. He wrote that one time when he was giving a workshop by the sea in Maine, he noticed an older man in the back of the room with tears in his eyes. When Bly later asked him about it the man said that he had always been an ambitious, hard working person in the world but now he found himself just wanting to watch the sea birds gliding above the waves.

New Moon in Taurus Monday

There is a very powerful New Moon tomorrow – Monday 5/18 EDT at 29 Taurus. It a good time to look at how you care for and nurture yourself along the road of life. Some good questions to ask would be- What would bring more joy into your life and how do you plan to create that? How well are you using your inner and outer resources to attain your aspirations? And how much do you believe in yourself and your abilities? Is that in need of updating? If any of these questions need addressing now is the time to address them and set intentions for new initiatives.

It is best to process and release the source of any anger or frustration that arises at this time. Jupiter continues to make a beneficent trine to Uranus – bringing very fortunate and sometimes out of the blue opportunities for growth and expansion which can be more easily perceived if you are in a place of optimism and abundance.

Mercury stations retrograde on the day of the New Moon at 13 degrees of Gemini and the Sabian symbol for that is, “Two people at widely different points are in conversation with each other by means of telepathy.” This Mercury retrograde period (through June 12) bodes well for telepathic communication.

Mars moves into Gemini

Mars is in Gemini now and the Sabian symbol associated with its degree is, “A glass bottomed boat reveals undersea wonders.” Through the lens of glass on the boat’s bottom, people are able to see and experience a realm normally hidden from view.

It is a good time for intuition. Pay attention to things that can bring a sense of wonder or discovery. With some of the challenging aspects Mars is making now that tend towards overwork and overwhelm – be sure to provide extra down time to access information from higher realms.

Juno and Jupiter

This year began with Jupiter in Leo in retrograde mode – and Jupiter recently stationed direct and resumed forward motion. Throughout this time Jupiter has been traveling with Juno, asteroid of commitment.

As Jupiter proceeds forward it is a good time to look at the commitments in your life – those made both on a deep level to your soul life as well as those on a more mundane level and see if there is room for bringing the inside and the outside into closer alignment.

Jupiter in Leo can shed light and wisdom on this area now – and the trine to fiery Uranus can provide direction through innovative thinking. Be open to breakthroughs.
